Don’t let local theater die!

Constructing the set for See How They Run

I love the Sugar Factory Playhouse.  Besides giving local thespians the opportunity to perform in front of an enthusiastic audience, it also provides wholesome family entertainment at an affordable price. If you haven’t heard by now though, the Playhouse is in jeopardy of being permanently shut down.  An untimely building inspection just three days before the opening of See How They Run has, at least for now, closed the building to any occupants.  It is unclear as of this writing whether the show will have to be cancelled.  I have seen firsthand the hours of dedicated community service that has gone into rehearsals and building the set.  I sincerely hope a way can be found to allow the theater team to share all their hard work.

Longer term I fear this could signal the end of local theater in West Jordan.  Whether you believe the closure was for safety or for political reasons, if you want to keep local theater alive in West Jordan, please contact the mayor and city council and let them know how you feel.
